Kids Shows



Is it just me or are the quality of kids shows just making them dumber. Some of them are okay and teach the basics such as words, numbers, shapes, etc. and those ones are alright. Of course, these are the cartoons or shows that none of my kids like to watch. They’d rather rot their minds with Sponge Bob than learn the ABC’s from Sesame Street. Then their are the crazy shows where kids are pulling wacky adventures off and getting away with it often. That seems to be setting a bad example for anyone, it’s one thing to be mischievous every once in a while but thinking that it’s your right to do whatever you want in the world isn’t the right message to be sent.

In addition to all this, whatever happened to going out side and playing or using your imagination. That seems to be a dieing art in these last few generations of kids. Of course, it doesn’t help that schools everywhere are eliminating some of the various activities that are fun as kids such as dodgeball and similarly competitive games. Goodness what is going to happen to our youth in twenty some years.

Cooking for Better Health



In my quest to lose weight, I’m learning many new things such as not eating before going to bed, reading nutritional labels, among other things as well. One of the things I’m really improving on is the learning to cook a little better for myself and others. Being a big fan of fried food, it’s a big hit to my concepts of cooking. Not that I’m never going to grease up and fry stuff anymore, just a bit less in order to lose weight and keep it off.

The grill is one of my new personal favorites. We just got ourselves a new propane grill, Hank Hill wold be proud, and have been putting it to some good use. It’s been great actually, less prep then I’m used to for must meats and all you have to do is go out turn on the grill and light it up. A little leery about the thought of gas, explosions, and other bad things that can be associated with propane but so far so good.

The one drag is the weather has to be relatively nice in order to use the grill. We have no overhead eve or way of protecting it and ourselves from the weather while cooking so I’ve been on the hunt for some other alternatives as well. To start with I learned how to broil hamburgers in the oven along with other cooking methods from various places on the internet including the one I just linked to. The families a big fan of hamburgers now that we’ve had healthier ways to make them. And using leaner meat in combination to smaller patties just adds to the excitement.

All in all, I’m learning lots and am really excited to see my progress in the coming weeks. Hopefully, I can reach all my goals eventually.

Getting Back Into Shape



So, it’s been a very long while since I’ve been anything close to what someone would call “in shape.” Basically, I have kids, an office job, and I’m lazy with eating, all of which factor in greatly to my fat feelings and look that I got going right now. Lately, I have decided to get off my butt and work out more often. No need to look like a skinny size 0-2 or anything like that, but enough to look and feel better about myself.

The initial goal is modest at 10 pounds in a month. It could also be a bit extreme since I’m not exactly overly obese but it’s a goal none the less, and I’ll adjust as I learn my limitations. My initial focus will be exercising regularly because if I can keep how much I eat the same it should be enough to start taking off the weight. Now it’s just a matter of taking the time to actually workout, it can be quiet the challenge with kids going in a million directions.

As time continues I’ll ease into learning to eat more nutritiously. That’s going to be a major learning curve right there, although it’s probably more about portion control than anything else, at least that’s what I’ve been lead to believe.

Ultimately, I’d like to be about 30 pounds lighter if possible. In doing so, it’s my hope to have more energy for my kids and day to day life. Having small arms again that don’t have that extra jiggly flab would be also very nice too.
