West Milford Mayor Endorses
Camille Abate for Congress
Mayor Bettina Bieri of West Milford Township Endorses Camille Abate for Congress
West Milford, NJ -
West Milford Mayor Bettina Bieri has endorsed Democratic Congressional Candidate Camille Abate to challenge Republican Scott Garrett for New Jersey’s 5th congressional district seat. Bieri, one of the very few female mayors in the 5th district, believes that Camille Abate is a woman of conviction and amazing strength. "Camille Abate can win this district," said Mayor Bieri.
Bieri firmly believes that Abate will represent her constituents and focus on the needs of the average New Jersey resident - the middle class. Much to her credit, Abate has visited West Milford and surrounding communities on multiple occasions over the last few years. "Camille Abate has not forgotten us here in Northern New Jersey. Our concerns are her concerns. As a civil rights attorney, she has dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of all citizens."
"Camille Abate will work tirelessly on issues that matter to us all, like alternative fuels, tax breaks for the middle class, universal healthcare coverage, economic growth, quality education, environmental protection and ending the war in Iraq," Bieri continued.
"It’s time for a change. Camille Abate will represent us because she is one of us. I hope others will join me on Tuesday, June 3rd and vote for Camille Abate... she deserves our unconditional and enthusiastic support."

ABATE PLEDGES TO FIGHT FOR THE AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS IN CONGRESS
To Stand Up For American Families Struggling With the Costs of Health Care, Housing, Energy, Gasoline and Education
Glen Rock, NJ-
Camille Abate, Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives from New Jersey's 5th District, vows to be a voice for the middle class in Congress. Describing America's middle class as "forgotten," Abate pledges to be the voice for voters in the 5th District and across America who are struggling to meet the costs of health care, energy, gasoline and education.
Abate is on the ballot in the June 3 Democratic primary, where she will face Dennis Shulman and expects to be on the ballot in the general election in November against Rep. Scott Garrett, the Republican incumbent.
"The harsh reality is that millions of Americans are struggling to get ahead, a situation made even worse by the weak national economy," said Abate. "I know that for a fact, from personal experience, and I'm determined to do everything in my power to level the playing field for these forgotten Americans. Washington will soon learn that it is dealing with a person who will fight for what's right and will refuse to take no for an answer."
On health care, Abate calls for affordable and universal medical and prescription care for all Americans.
On energy, she advocates mobilizing the best and brightest scientific minds to achieve less dependence on foreign oil, to stimulate the economy with the active development of renewable energy and to protect the environment and reduce global warming.
On the economy, Abate supports protecting jobs for American workers and providing assistance for workers who are displaced during the economic downturn. She proposes incentives for American businesses to create employment opportunities and to encourage businesses to initiate new products and programs. And she calls for greater supervision of the financial markets and institutions to restore public confidence.
On education, she believes in sufficient federal funding to ensure quality education throughout New Jersey and for affordable college education for all.
Finally, she calls for the United States withdrawal from Iraq. "It's time to end the war in Iraq and focus on our families instead," Abate said. "The first big step in getting back on our feet is to return to the policies and practices that made the United States the greatest country in the world," continued Abate. "That I pledge to do as a member of the House of Representatives."

ABATE WEB COMMERCIAL
IS AVAILABLE ON YouTube
Web Video is Latest Initiative
in Candidate's Effort to Capture Nomination
Glen Rock, NJ-
Camille Abate, Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives from New Jersey's 5th District, is being introduced to voters in her district and throughout cyberspace with the release of a new "web commercial." The four-minute video, "Meet Your New Congresswoman, Camille
Abate," is available on YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6H4U0N4x70) and on www.abate08.com, the candidate's website.
The campaign's Internet initiative comes approximately five weeks before the June 3rd Democratic primary in which Abate will face off against Dennis Shulman and six months prior to the national election in which she is favored to unseat Rep. Scott Garrett, the Republican incumbent.
Abate's confidence is well-founded, supported by a survey of likely primary and general election voters and by a series of key endorsements and the positive reactions of voters she has encountered in "Meet & Greet" sessions throughout the district.
Highlights of the campaign include:
Abate Beats Both Shulman and Garrett
Significantly in Poll of Likely Voters
Abate enjoys a significant advantage over Dennis Shulman and incumbent Scott Garrett, her opponents in the June 3rd Democratic primary and in November's general election respectively, according to a survey* of likely voters in each contest, conducted by brilliant corners Research & Strategies, a Washington, D.C.-based polling firm.
Key findings of the poll include:
- Abate's history and basic message of being a common sense fighter for the middle class are highly effective. After voters hear a basic biographical profile of Abate, she moves into an outstanding 12-point lead over her primary opponent Dennis Shulman and a 15-point lead over Republican incumbent Scott Garrett.
-
Abate's resume resonates especially with Independent voters, exposing a significant weakness for Garrett. Abate's potential to strongly move the district's Independents, while appealing to the large number of women voters, gives Democrats an excellent opportunity to break the Republican hold on this seat in 2008.
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
Targets Rep. Scott Garrett
The DCCC has targeted Rep. Scott Garrett for defeat in November, describing him as a candidate who "will face a tough challenge from a strong Democratic candidate fighting for change." The targeting of Garrett, one of only 10 such designated incumbents in the Northeast, is seen as a boost for the candidacy of Abate.
Abate Receives Key Women's Campaign Forum Endorsement
Abate received a key endorsement from the Women's Campaign Forum (WCF), a non-partisan, pro-choice, national membership organization dedicated to insuring that women become leaders in public life.
The endorsement makes Abate eligible for financial support from both the WCF's political action committee (WCF PAC) and from the Social Change program. She also will be actively promoted to the organization's members.
Sheet Metal Workers International Joins a Dozen Labor Unions in Endorsing Abate
Sheet Metal Workers Local 25 Chairman, Joseph Demark Jr., announced the Union’s support of Abate on April 29, 2008 saying: “Camille’s background validates her hard work ethic and demonstrates her passion to fight for working Americans with perseverance.”
Abate adds the Sheet Metal Workers to a long list of endorsements, including: Passaic County Sheriff Jerry Speziale; West Milford Mayor Bettina Bieri; Sussex County Democratic Committee; Carpenter’s International Legislative Improvement Committee; Passaic County Building and Construction Trades Council; Laborers’ International Union of North America; United Association of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters and Sprinkler Fitters; International Brotherhood of Boilermakers; International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen; International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators; International Asbestos Workers; and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
* - Telephone interviews conducted March 24-27, 2008, with 400 randomly-selected likely Democratic primary voters, and 300 randomly-selected likely general election voters. Margin of error for primary election sample (400) is +/- 4.88 percent. Margin of error for general election sample (300) is +/- 5.65 percent.

CAMILLE ABATE'S RUN AS
DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR
CONGRESS IN 5th DISTRICT IS
BOLSTERED BY STRONG
UNION BACKING
IBEW Leader Challenges Shulman Campaign
on Endorsement Claims
Glen Rock, NJ-
Camille Abate’s campaign as Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives from New Jersey’s 5th District has received yet another boost from organized labor. It came in a strongly worded statement from Richard “Buzz” Dressel of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164 challenging the campaign of Rabbi Dennis Shulman, Abate’s opponent in the June 3 Democratic primary, on endorsement claims.
“I don’t know how Shulman thinks he can take the liberty of announcing that he has everyone’s endorsement when most of organized labor is behind Camille Abate,” said Dressel. “Considering that organized labor is the largest contributor to the Democrats, it might be wise for the party to permit us to weigh in on the decision.”
The IBEW is one of nine unions that have given their support to Abate as she seeks to unseat incumbent Scott Garrett in the general election in November.
Dressel went on to say: “I believe that Camille Abate has the passion and fight to win the election in November.” That sentiment is supported by a recent public opinion survey of 400 randomly selected Democrats likely to vote in the primary and 300 randomly selected voters likely to vote in the general election. The survey concluded: “While (Abate and Shulman) start the race without strong bases of support, Camille Abate exhibits greater upside potential, as her profile resonates more strongly with primary voters, and a majority of general election voters move toward supporting her once they are informed of her biography.”
“The key to defeating Scott Garrett in November is choosing a candidate who voters can relate to, a person who is likeable and credible,” said Dressel. “I challenge anyone to spend a few minutes with Camille Abate and not come away believing that she is that person.”

DCCC TARGETS
REP. SCOTT GARRETT'S SEAT
IN NEW JERSEY'S FIFTH DISTRICT
Move is Seen as a Boost for Candidacy
of Democrat Camille Abate
Glen Rock, NJ-
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has targeted Rep. Scott Garrett for defeat in the upcoming national election in November. Garrett, who currently represents New Jersey's Fifth District, was described by the DCCC as a candidate who "will face a tough challenge from a strong Democratic candidate fighting for change."
The targeting of Garrett, one of only 10 such designated incumbents in the Northeast, is seen as a boost for the candidacy of Democrat Camille Abate, who said: "I'm excited to hear that I will have the help of the DCCC in my campaign to retire Scott Garrett. Our district deserves real leadership on real issues. I offer that and a change from the extreme partisan politics Garrett has forced on Northern New Jersey. I will lead the fight for jobs and fair economic policy, put healthcare above politics and finally end the war in Iraq."
Ms. Abate provides a definite alternative to the policies and politics of Garrett and her vision more clearly represents the people of the Fifth District, which encompasses parts of Bergen, Passaic, Sussex and Warren Counties. She enjoys broad support in the district. It includes:
- IBEW Local 164 Business Manager
Richard (Buzzy) Dressel:
"I believe that Ms. Abate has the passion and fight
to win the election in November 2008."
- Passaic County Sheriff Jerry Speziale:
"A woman of conviction and fight can win this district. That woman is Camille Abate."
- West Milford Mayor Bettina Bieri:
"Her enthusiasm and compassion are unparalleled;
her approach to tackling issues is refreshing and steadfast."
The DCCC is the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the House of Representatives and the only political committee whose principal mission is to support Democratic House candidates.
Ms. Abate will be on the ballot in the June 3rd Democratic Party Primary and expects to be on the ballot in the general election in November. Born and raised in Bergen County, Abate is a dedicated wife, mother, civil rights attorney and loyal Democrat. She is committed to preserving the U.S. Constitution and its values for future generations.

ABATE CONTINUES CAMPAIGN
TO RETIRE GARRETT WITH
STRONG UNION SUPPORT
Glen Rock, NJ-
Camille Abate, Democratic Candidate for Congress in New Jersey's 5th Congressional District, is enthusiastic about her race for Congress against Republican Scott Garrett.
"There's a new politics this presidential year -- a politics that gives real meaning to real concerns. Scott Garrett has betrayed the voices of the people of Northern Jersey for too long -- I am the candidate who can take him down and I am not about to let him cruise to a win again."
While the Bergen County Democratic Committee selected challenger Rabbi Shulman to appear in the first column in June's primary, Camille views this as only a small obstacle. "The people of North Jersey will vote for me in the primary no matter what line I'm on because they are smart enough to recognize that I am the candidate who will make their voice heard in Washington."
Abate's strong union support remains equally unfazed by the BCDO's decision and will continue to give her their unwavering support. Leaders of the nine labor unions that have given Abate their endorsement, including Richard "Buzz" Dressel of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #164 and Rick Sabato of the United Plumbers Union Local #14 have promised to continue supporting Camille throughout the race.
"The unions are backing me because they know I am the candidate who can beat Scott Garrett and who can fight for what is important to them once in Washington. They know how to run campaigns and will be a huge asset down the line."
"The last three candidates put up by the BCDO have been weak and ineffective, losing by large margins to the extremist Scott Garrett. I will not sit by and watch yet another weak candidate stumble through his inexperience and waste the opportunity to defeat the most right wing member of New Jersey's Congressional delegation. The decision of a few BCDO insiders comes as no surprise and will not affect my campaign for US Congress in the slightest way. I will remain in this fight for change and the fight to get the voices of New Jersey's 5th District heard in Washington."

Secures Union Support
On Wednesday, November 28, a breakfast fundraiser was held at Six Brothers Diner in Clifton, New Jersey for pro-union candidate and former union member Camille Abate. The event was supported by several Bergen and Passaic County local trade unions, including the Plumbers Local 14, the Passaic County Building and Trades Council, the Asbestos Workers Local 32, the Pipefitters Local 274, the Bricklayers, the Carpenters Locals 1342 and 124, members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 102, and the Laborer's International Union.
